Gallbladder or biliary sludge is more difficult to diagnose than having gallstones. Rather than having solid gallstones, gall bladder sludge is more of a thin, often greenish mud that, for the most part, stays in your gallbladder. Like with gallstones, crystals begin to form in your liver and gallbladder thickening your bile with crystals of cholesterol, bile salts, bilirubin, and/or other particles.
Most of the time you won’t even know that you have gallbladder sludge. When it’s diagnosed, eat some gallbladder healthy foods (apples, artichokes, radishes, turmeric are all great), and conduct a gallbladder cleanse to flush it out.
